Leaf blight in Allium monanthum is caused by Botrytis squamosa in South Korea

In recent years, leaf blight has been observed on dalae (Allium monanthum) leaves at Seosan and Tehan regions in South Korea. Disease symptoms include necrotic spots, lesions, and blight on leaves. The pathogen responsible for the disease was successfully isolated from symptomatic leaf tissue using standard phytopathological procedures and identified. Based on morphological features coupled with sequence analyses of glyceraldehyde-3phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH), heat-shock protein 60 (HSP60), and DNA-dependent RNA polymerase subunit II (RPB2) genes, fungal isolates were identified as Botrytis squamosa. The pathogenicity was confirmed by artificially inoculating both healthy detached leaves and whole plants of A. monanthum. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of leaf blight caused by B. squamosa in dalae in South Korea.
