In this article, the two families of Uiseong Kim clan(義城金氏) who settled in Sangju(尙州) from the late 16th to the 17th centuries were investigated, and their subsequent activities. During the Joseon Dynasty, Sangju was the main point of transportation through Yeongnam-daero and the Nakdonggang River. They exchanged with Hoseo through the land route and exchanged with each region of Gyeongsang-do through the Nakdonggang River. As a result, Sangju was able to communicate with four families of various characteristics, and was characterized by communication and convergence. This characteristic is more prominent in the area along the Nakdonggang River coast in Sangju. Through the Nakdonggang River, they also exchanged with the Andong area to the north and Seongju area to the south, Jinju area, and Gyeongju area. The four tribes that settled in this area moved to Sangju through the river and settled there, and expanded their friendship through the river. This pattern was examined through the activities of the Uiseong Kim family among the four tribes that settled in the Sangju riverbank area. The Sangju Uiseong Kim clan consists of the Kim Woo-Gong family and the Kim Dam-soo family, and they are close relatives from Seongju, and academically, they both had something in common that included the influence of Yi Hwang while originating in breakfast. However, there was a difference between the moment to lay the foundation for Sangju and the timing of the migration. Kim Woo-Gong established a stable base and exchange relationship based on his in-laws' family formed through marriage, and was able to actively work in Sangju. The period of residence for Kim Dam-soo was short because he was based in Seonyeong. Therefore, the relationship between the Sangju's foundation and exchange was limited. The descendants of Kim Woo-goong and Kim Dam-soo expanded in their own way, inheriting the foundation of their predecessors and the relationship of companionship. The foundation of the resident was weakened as the center of activity of the Kim Woo-goong family moved to the northern part of Gyeongbuk after the evacuation life caused by the Imjin War. After that, they were able to recover and settle down as the resident family, but there were several limitations in the relationship and expansion of their status. On the other hand, the Kim Dam-soo family strengthened its weak foundation through academic relationships and marriages, and was able to expand the relationship to the resident family society.
