초록

The fall webworm, Hyphanria cunea, is a polyphagous pest found on trees in residential areas nationwide and causes significant damage by eating leaves. In comparison with pest control for crops, the frequency of pest control for trees in residential areas is relatively limited. However, in the case of the fall webworm, there are differences in the history of pesticide exposure by region. Therefore, this study examined the response to eight insecticides registered as fall webworm control agents (Carbaryl WP, Chlorfenapyr SC, Deltamethrin EC, Emamectin benzoate EC, Diflubenzuron SC, Fenitrothion EC, Flubendiamide SC, and Metaflumizone EC). The response was observed through the indoor controlled spraying of insecticide on third instar larvae collected from 17 cities and counties in different regions. The mortality of the fall webworm due to pesticides increased in a dose-dependent manner and the number of days after pesticide treatment. Furthermore, the mortality rate of fall webworm was variable and dependent on the type of pesticide used. Chlorfenapyr was determined to have the lowest efficacy rate while emamectin benzoate had the highest efficacy. At recommended concentrations, there were no differences after seven days of treatment between the efficacy of all insecticides on regional populations of fall webworm, with the exception of chlorfenapyr. In conclusion, this study determined that the fall webworm does not have resistance to these insecticides, and thus, they can be used practically and effectively.
